Ouse River Morning

The Ouse River flows under a bridge on the Fourth Line of Asphodel Township, just south of Ander-Vale Farm. On this early spring day, a soft, wet snow had fallen.

This painting received the Don Maddocks Award at the 1999 Juried Exhibition of the East Central Ontario Art Association. In his remarks, juror, Keith Cornell said, "In this masterful painting of a river disappearing into a wintry woods, Doug Andrews shows us that even on a grey winter's day there is plenty of colour to be found outside. While his style is remarkable in its realism, he does not encumber the viewer with useless detail. He entangles us in the bush and lets us find the way through it as we follow the river.
